What’s in a Name?

A lot is in a name, actually.  Especially when the name in question is the name of a new church…

From the time I first sensed God leading us to restart a church plant in the Alliance, Texas area, I have assumed that the name of this new church would be “Compass Church.”  But for a number of reasons, including the fact that a great new church in the area has a very similar name, we have decided that we need a new name.

When we first started considering this, I was very hesitant.  I’ve grown very comfortable with the name “Compass Church,” and the thought of setting it aside was difficult.

But I now believe it’s necessary for us to move forward and I am getting excited about the freshness and newness that a new name brings to this new move of God in our lives and this area.  Our Trustees are fully on board with the need to change the name, Leona and I both have prayed and have a peace about it, and in many ways, it just makes sense.

But what will that new name be?

Honestly, I’m not yet sure.  But we hope to have it nailed down before the week is out.

Would you mind praying for us as we seek a name that reflects our heart for developing more, stronger and closer followers of Jesus Christ in the Alliance, Texas area?

Because as we all know, a rose by any other name…would be called something else.
