Spring has SO Sprung…

Man, has it ever. I love spring. And spring is definitely here. Even as I type this, I can hear through my window one of the neighbors mowing their yard.

And yesterday was a great example of the fact that spring has indeed sprung. I’ll show and tell you about it in a minute, but first let me say that I can never enter spring without thinking of this video. [If you’re pressed for time, scroll to around 2:25 remaining or so.]

Welcome, sweet springtime, indeed. 🙂 Three signs of spring were all over my day, yesterday:

First, I spent some time tackling a “monster weed plague” that has inflicted my yard. Truly a wicked weed this way comes. About thirty minutes of pulling up those ugly things, and I had created my own tumble…weed. 🙂 What can I say? It’s Texas.

, Leona and I went out for lunch at Panda Express in Southlake, and then went for a short drive around the Alliance, Texas area. The day and the company were beautiful, and we enjoyed some great scenery in the process.

By the way, this was the first time this week that Leona has been able to get out of the house. She is no longer confined to the “hard” collar, which she has worn since the surgery. Now she is wearing a “soft” collar intermittently as the muscles in her neck strengthen and heal. Fortunately, as we were out and about, she also was no longer experiencing the migraine headache she’s had since Monday. Although her face did have “flash backs” every now and then. 🙂 Good times.

And third
, late in the afternoon, Leona called me into the living room to take care of a bee. Since her brother is very allergic to bee stings and she’s never been stung, bees make her really nervous. So I came to the rescue.

The bee was buzzing behind the blinds, so I tried to coax it out to the open by rattling the blinds with a fly swatter. It made a sudden move; I made a sudden swat; and then the weirdest thing happened. It splattered into many pieces all over the room as I felt something gross hit my face! I guess I must have “swatted” a bit too hard… Eeewww… Sorry folks. No pictures of that. This is a family blog.

But I gotta tell you, I’m not as enthusiastic about seeing this movie, now, but I am more enthusiastic about freeing the bee next time, let me tell you.

Welcome, sweet springtime; we greet thee with song. And every now and then we greet thee with a tumbleweed, a funny face and a fly swatter. And then, of course, spring gets all “smart allecky” and greets us back with new weeds, migraines and a bug in the face…
