During our recent time on “The Daniel Fast,” my wife, Leona and I sensed God giving us five “general impressions” that we are now working out with specific, measurable targets.
These targets are simple, small steps that are obvious in their purpose but profound in their implementation.
Here’s the second set:
2. General Impression: A call to physical fitness and health – Get strong. Get healthy. Get Ready.
- Specific Target 1: Run in our first 5K. Specifically, we’re running in this one: Cowtown Marathon: Adult 5K and we’re using this “Couch to 5K” app to get us there: C25K Free. The Cowtown Marathon is celebrating its 35th year, and is a natural choice for us since it’s taking place in the heart of Fort Worth. There’s something about signing up for a 5K and announcing it publicly that is very motivating to get moving! The “C25K Free” app that we are using is awesome. It’s simple (“Begin running now…”) and moves us along at a realistic (8 weeks) pace.
- Specific Target 2: Schedule weekend “adventure hikes” using the AllTrails site and app. Leona and I have truly begun to “rediscover the outdoors,” just as the app and site suggest. When we’re out on a trail, we don’t feel like we’re working out, we feel like we’re blowing the cobwebs out! You can follow a few of our light adventures on video on my YouTube Channel. While we’re training for the 5K, we’re making the “hikes” about every other weekend or so.
I’ll share two more targets for this general impression in the next post.
